I love this photo so much—we were sitting just like this, watching the sunset, and a woman came up to us and said, can I have one of your phones? This is the perfect photo! And it was—it captured us and our weekend absolutely perfectly.
Last week I met my best friends from high school in Florida for a long weekend…and if you look closely at that photo, you can see what the weather was like—yes, we are 100% wearing hats, scarves & winter coats on the beach. The weather was truly, truly horrible—it got down to the 20s with lots of rain and icy wind gusts.
There are eight of us who’ve kept in touch since high school—and our 30th high school reunion is this fall, so that’s a lot of history between us. High school, of course, which is its own wild universe, but also college—we were the girls from home that new college boyfriends had to meet if things were getting serious. We were in each other’s weddings, we held each other’s babies, we’ve supported each other through kids’ health challenges, losing parents, breast cancer. We have an ongoing text thread that’s equal parts updates on job interviews and parents’ health, book recommendations, and random questions about perimenopause.
