Hello from Brooklyn! Happy Friday! Happy December!

It’s been ages since I’ve done just an old-fashioned kitchen sink of a post—a few updates, some thoughts & reflections, a couple recommendations, the view from here…

First: a few reflections on the move, now that we’ve been here almost three months

There’s so much we love about where we landed, & these are my two favorite things about our new spot right now: first, we LOVE the neighborhood. We’re in an historic residential district of brownstones tucked in between so many lovely little neighborhoods, and we love being able to walk in almost any direction and find ourselves in an entirely distinct neighborhood—Fort Greene, Park Slope, Cobble Hill, Carroll Gardens. Our street is quiet and friendly, and most of our neighbors have been here for more than twenty years. It feels like the kind of place you could stay for a long time, a place where you could put down deep roots—I love that feeling.

And second: we have a table. One of the things that drove me absolutely crazy about our apartment in Chelsea is that we didn’t have a dining table. We tried a million different ways—different tables, different configurations, and it just never worked. We had a little table that functioned as a buffet table, but we ate sitting on the sofa with plates balanced on our knees, and we used the coffee table as a dining table more often than not. On one hand, I firmly believe that there are a million right ways to live, and that a table is just a piece of furniture…but on the other hand, I really really wanted one. I really wanted our family and friends to sit together around the table on a regular basis, and the fact that we get to do that now brings me so much joy.
