20 Books I've Loved Recently
Well, hello! It’s a mild spring-y day in New York, and I’m writing in between trips—suitcase open, clothes everywhere, lists upon lists. My mom and I are leaving on a very special trip tomorrow, and I’m so excited about it. Of course I’ll tell you all about it when we get back, but until then: BOOKS.
Fiction
The Women by Kristen Hannah
I really love Kristen Hannah’s writing, and this is one of her best yet, I think. I was away with friends recently and one of the women was stealing away every spare moment with her Kindle in order to finish it, and because I’d just finished it, too, I understood that move completely.
Family Family by Laurie Frankel
Frankel is an engaging, thoughtful writer, and this is an adoption story—several adoption stories, actually. There’s a lot of conversation right now (rightly so!) about how not all adoption stories are the same, and this book illuminated so much for me.
Good Material by Dolly Alderton
Oh, I just loved this one! It’s a breakup story, written from a male perspective—and British—and it’s so funny and smart.
Mrs. Quinn's Rise to Fame by Olivia Ford
This is just the coziest, sweetest story—an aging British woman auditions for a show like Great British Bake-Off. Love.
Come And Get It by Kiley Reid
I really loved Reid’s last novel Such a Fun Age, and this is similar—a sly, precise look at race and age and gender and class, and this one’s set on a college campus…every character feels familiar, and there are soooo many cringe-y dynamics. I loved it.
Thank You For Listening by Julia Whelan
This one’s all about audio-book narrators, and it’s so fun! Romance, twists, and a fun behind-the-curtain look at the audio book world.
